Painted Hallway!

I have a bunch of photos during the painting phase (wet paint and lots of green tape) but those aren't that exciting, and the colour looks much lighter when it's still wet, so I'm only including 3 "during" shots. I still have a few touch-ups to do on the white, but otherwise the room is nearly done.

These were taken less than an hour ago. The colour has a tendency to look more yellow in most of the photos because of the incandescent lighting, but the second and last photos show the actual colour off best.

This shows off the colour the most accurately.

Note: in the following photo, the short flat wall on the right is the same brown.

Depending on the angles/lighting, this makes the blue in the bedroom look much more blue than usual (which I like).

Again, this is much closer to what the real colour looks like. Sort of a "wet sand" colour. Also, I like that it blends fairly well with the light yellow and the slate tile in the bathroom. The wall colour is also nearly the same shade as my shower curtain. Again, the colour is a match to Beauti-Tone's "Uber Luxe".

So what do you guys think? Yay or Nay? And you can be honest. Everyone has different tastes. I really like how it turned out. It's the first colour I've picked so far that has pretty much turned out just like I wanted.

  2. Wonderful green. Looks a lot like the green we chose for our living room. =)

    1. I went and looked at your living room photos, and I can kind of see why you pick up some green tones. The colour is actually a sandy brown. I do quite like the colour in your living room, though. Mind sharing it? You guys have an awesome house, BTW. I know you commented here several times, but I didn't realize you were one of the owners of Laurelhurst (which I've come across several times).

  3. Beautiful color.
We have a historic area in South Forth Worth that is made up of 1900ish homes. Your house and all the work you have done on it would fit right in there. Every year they hold a tour of recently renovated homes to raise money for the Historic association that governs it. Most of the renovated homes don't look like they have had nearly the care put into them as you are putting into yours.

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words. Work has been slow, but I think the efforts are worth the final product. The only sad thing is that without seeing the before photos, the house will just look like it's been cared for since day 1, rather than nearly completely redone.

  4. I have just two words for you: LOVE IT! Love the color, the trim and the attention to detail you have applied to your home. I, too, live in a historic home; the same home I grew up in. My parents were only the 2nd owners...sadly, he POs thought it'd be a brilliant idea to remove every single original built in and classic detail prior to my parents purchasing the house. My mother completed the "butchering" of our house by having it "remodeled" to remove any remaining trace of history, and topped it off by adding a layer of stucco over the wood siding :(

Now that I own this house, I feel it is my duty to bring it back to it's original glory. I have started with the little bookcases on either side of the (sealed) fireplace, the ONLY original feature that survived two (idiotic) "remodels". I am loving all the inspiration I'm getting from our blog. Thank you!

    1. Thanks so much for the comments. I'm very lucky to be a skilled cabinetmaker, because a lot of the issues with this house are mainly cosmetics such as trim, and cabinetry. I'm also lucky that most of the trim is made from very simple pieces.

It's really too bad about your house. It sounds like a lot of it can be reversed (which is often the case), but this tends to be very expensive and time consuming.
