Rats

Literally. Well, one at least.

It's currently 11:35pm, and I'm bathed in sweat after about a good half hour of rummaging and moving boxes. This was because I had a rat in the basement. I had head an odd noise a few days ago, and didn't really think much of it, but this evening, I found droppings in the cupboards in the kitchen. I was NOT happy.

A quick Google search pointed out that half-inch droppings are too big to be mouse droppings (which I have seen many times before at my aunt's place). These are either Norway rat or Roof rat.

I did catch the little bugger, too.

I had gone into the basement and heard the noise from him trying to hide into a box after the lights went on. I knew the approximate location, so I moved boxes all around to make sure that if he jumped out, he'd be trapped. My plan worked perfectly.

He was FAST an jumped right out of the box, running around in circles and trying to escape. When I did catch him (with a round plastic container), he screamed because his tail was caught under the sharp rim.

Now I don't know what to do. I've got him trapped under the container with some heavy paint cans over it. I should kill it, but I don't know if I can, and I'm afraid to get bitten, or for him to escape. The other option is to release him in the graveyard across the road...

  1. I don't know what you decided to do, but rats have a home range radius of minimum 100 m!
